Travel Diary- Amsterdam

me stood on a bridge in Amsterdam

Hey guys,

Long time no speak, but I do have a genuine reason for being a weekend behind on uploading.. I’ve been to Amsterdam for a little weekend break!! (not like you couldn’t have guessed from the title).

You know when you just need to get away for a little bit and an hour or two away just isn’t far enough? Well that how me and one of my friends were feeling so we hopped over to HolidayPirates and found a mini weekend cruise to Amsterdam for under £90!! Like we could miss that?!? I don’t think so! And the dates lined up great for my friend to finish her exams and become a free woman.

So off we went, bags packed onto both of our first ever times on both a cruise and to Amsterdam. And when memes say there are two types of girls in the world they weren’t wrong, I had everything in a backpack that was half full and my friend had a big weekend bag that took the two of us to fasten.

On our way…

You have to arrive and be checked in at least 45 minutes before the ship leaves and check in is nothing like in an airport, you just show them your ticket, they scan it and you go through the gate. You have to go through a metal detector but your bags doesn’t really  get checked or weighed, there is no limit on liquids, you can take hair straighteners/curlers, hairdryers ect. We didn’t know this and me not wanting to part with make-up I took barely anything! But to be honest I’m not really wearing much make-up lately, it’s far too hot and my skin isn’t looking too bad at the minute (touch wood). Once you are on you get told what level your room/cabin is on, go a dump your bags and then straight to the bar!

We mooched straight up to the starbar because we didn’t know what it would be like (how cold) once we set off and oh wow it was so nice! They had a singer on for entertainment, the sun was out and there was just a buzz in the atmosphere. But I tell you what £5.50 per pint wasn’t the best thing to face, but that is the only down side I found to the cruise!

Once we set off and the duty free shop opened we soon moved on to see what we could buy…. crisps. All we ended up buying was a bag of crisps each and some water for on the night (£2 per bottle and it was 250ml and warm, I don’t even care how that sounds why so expensive and why warm?). The rest of the night we just spent in one of the bars which also had a group playing all night and in the interval you had Bingo and a famous faces quiz (18/24 isn’t too bad!)

And once they closed then the hidden room opened which turned out to be the night club! HELL YEH! I didn’t get any photos of this room we were too busy dancing! but it was super dark with disco lights and those which make white clothing look like you have a light under them.

But one of the members of the group we ended up spending quite a bit of time with advised us not to get too drunk on the first night because you will be hanging and won’t enjoy Amsterdam that much the next morning and then you will have written off the next night as well. So we got to the happy tipsy stage and literally just danced and had a laugh. I’m so glad we did as well. I wasn’t a fan of sea legs at the best of times never mind drunken see legs too (bork!)

Que the photo’s……

Like we could go to somewhere as beautiful as Amsterdam and not pose on loads of the bridges and well anywhere because even in front of a random building it still looks pretty.

We were only there for about 6 hours but we wandered around the shops, visited a couple of bars, tried some of “Holland’s No1 chips”

Hollands number 1 chips with Pesto sauce

We tried some of the local cuisine anddd for your first time there you have to visit the sex musium and get a photo on one of the iconic seats…..

I was going to put the photo on, but I have chickened out :/ But it did happen!

And we had to visit the red light district, that’s just another must when you visit Amsterdam isn’t it?! As soon as I seen this sign I had the Lady Marmalade stuck in my head for a good hour if not longer!

After we had a wander,we headed to a pub in time to watch the first half of the England football game (it’s the World Cup how could we not attempt to watch some of it? The pub we ended up in was full of shouting and chanting from the lads inside and it was full of that much smoke we couldn’t really see the tele and we were sat right in front of it!

Back Home….

All good things must come to an end I guess and we had to come home wayyyyyy earlier than what either of us wanted

But it did mean that we were literally back in the bar before the ship even started to move again! We briefly met back up with our new group of ship friends then went back to our cabin to get changed to fully enjoy our last night.

Once we were changed and the make-up topped up we went back to the bar, only to be dragged to the other bar a couple of levels up because yet another singer was on. After a good sing song one of the lads fell asleep so obviously everyone started to play human buckaroo

Then obviously it was back down to the main bar to have a dance then once that closed it was into the night club! but in between dancing I was challenging the members of the group to the motorbike racing game in the arcade, and thrashed all but 1 of them! Even ended up on the car and shooting games!

The night club closed somewhere between 2 and 3, but we just really didn’t want the night to end so we ended up on a massive stool that the remaining 4 of us could comfortably fit on and played cards and chatted absolute rubbish until about 5 in the morning.

The entire trip was great, I would recommend it to anybody. For a weekend where you want to feel like you have done something then why not do this? Travel with one of your friends (or a loved one), make memories and worry later! This is my new motto I am living by from now on…
