2019 Experiences – Olly Murs

Hi guys,

I know this is a couple of weeks late, and I’m sorry about that, I just don’t know where the past couple of weeks have gone! But last month me and one of the girls went to Newcastle to see Olly Murs!

Just like we did for the George Ezra concert, we got an early afternoon train down and managed to check into our room at the New Bridge Hotel with enough time to get ready. We actually got sorted that fast we popped into one of the pubs along the way for a pint, which was so nice!

When we were in the arena, we saw loads of people walking around with a hotdog and man did that make us hungry! We went to the counter to get our first pint and when we looked t the menu, it was pretty much £10 for a hotdog and a pint… erm no thank you!

Beth pointed out that we had seats in block A! And I almost lost my s**t! I have never been sat in block A before, I was close for Boyzone and I think we were something like block C?

Not zoomed in, this was the actual view!

The Warm up act was Rak Su, who don’t get me wrong, they were good but they seemed to be lagging a bit. There was nothing on stage with them and it was like they had no energy (I know we all get days like that but we all put an act on, especially in front of a crowd that big!). And they seemed to be over pretty fast.

After they had been on the stage, there was a 15/20 minute break so we could go and get another pint and boy was it busy (obviously Kathleen, everyone will have had the same idea). Then the build up on stage started for Olly to make his entrance, obviously everyone started recording it, but I heard the girls next to me say that he was going to enter at the stairs on the right of the arena. And literally as they said that the spotlight went on and he was there in the audience!!

He sung most of his big hits as well as songs from other artists/ songs that linked in with the stories that he was telling such as the King Louis song from The Jungle Book (aka “I Wanna Be Like You”) reminded him of his time with Robbie Williams (hands down my favourite song of the night). Some of the other songs he sung were: –

  • “Dear Darlin”,
  • “Heart Skips A Beat”,
  • “Please Don’t Let Me Go”,
  • “Trouble Maker”,
  • “Wrapped Up”,
  • “It Wasn’t Me” (by Shaggy),
  • “Shape Of You” (by Ed Sheeran)

And so many more! He honestly did not stand stop for the full 2 and a bit hours he was on stage (apart from having to change his top because Jesus that man sweats!!!).

He was very cheeky with some of the things he said and the way he danced. The thing that really made it for me, was how much fun he had with his band and how much he included them in the entire show. It was sweet.

Even though the show was really good, I can’t say I’m in a rush to go back and see him. Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t mind going to see him again, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to get tickets.

Love, Kathleen xox
